Why Drive A Natural Gas Vehicle?

With today’s ever rising cost of oil, Natural Gas Vehicles make economical sense. In Utah, natural gas is selling for $0.63 per equivalent gallon of gasoline. Fuel savings along with environmental benefits

combine to make Natural Gas the ideal fuel source.

Federal Tax Incentive

Alternative fueling station credit: Federal tax credit equal to 30% of refueling equipment placed into service that year, with a maximum $30,000 credit per year. Credit is in effect on all equipment placed into service after December 31, 2005.

Cleaner Burning Fuel

Natural gas in of itself is a cleaner burning fuel than gasoline or diesel fuels. Natural gas contains less carbon than any other fossil fuel and, therefore will produce less carbon Dioxide (CO2) per mile than conventional vehicles. NGV’s also emit significantly less carbon monoxide (CO), about 70% less, as well as less volatile organic compounds than their gasoline counterparts. Each of these by-products play a crucial role in the formation of greenhouse gases.

NGV’s dramatically reduced tailpipe emissions. According to the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition, a typical NGV can reduce exhaust emissions by:

Carbon Monoxide (CO) by 70%
Non-methane organic gas (NMOG) by 87%
Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) by 87%
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) by almost 20%below that of gasoline vehicles.

Domestically Produced

Another distinct advantage of Natural Gas is the fact that this is a domestically produced fuel source. By utilizing natural gas as a vehicular fuel we, as a nation, reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Natural Gas is a less expensive, clean burning, domestically produced fuel. There couldn’t be a better combination.

P.C. McKenzie Company is a Pennsylvania Natural Gas Compressor Company based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Are Natural Gas Powered Vehicles safe?
Natural Gas an ideal fuel source for many reasons, including safety. Natural Gas is lighter than air. This means that it will not puddle (like gasoline) or sink to the ground like propane, which is heavier than air. Instead, Natural Gas will rise and dissipate in the atmosphere. Natural gas also has a higher ignition temperature. This means that it is much harder to ignite. Also the storage systems used for compressed natural gas are infinitely stronger that the gasoline tanks found on cars and trucks today.
