NATURAL GAS REFUELING FOR SCHOOL
BUSES
|
|
Many school districts across the Nation have made the move to clean burning, cost saving Natural Gas. In Tallahassee, Florida Leon County Schools have received the first eight new CNG powered buses and have opened a state-of-the-art NGV Refueling facility. The goal was to replace old diesel powered buses with a fleet of compressed natural gas buses that will reduce the district’s carbon foot print while using a domestically available fuel source.
* The "Pennsylvania State Clean Diesel Grant Program"
is now available for organizations that operate diesel-powered bus
fleets. Fleets that operate school and transit buses that operate
in the State of Pennsylvania are eligible to apply. Please contact

CNG REFUELING FOR
SCHOOL BUSES

At the station ribbon cutting ceremony, Manny Joanos, Director of the Leon County School’s Energy Department, stated “There are no emissions into the atmosphere. This is a CNG bus, you can walk behind and never smell a fume. Additionally, we are going to save about 5 thousand dollars a year per bus on the fuel, this is a cheaper fuel, so we are very excited about this,”

School buses can be filled either in a fast-fill fashion utilizing ASME Storage vessels or in a time-fill fashion. A time-fill design allows the buses to return to a common garage or parking area and connect to fill post assemblies. The buses are then filled over night.
