The Hiram G. Andrews Center is a state run facility formerly heated by (3) Keeler Coal-Fired Boilers. ABACUS Engineered Systems received a Design/Build Contract, through Pennsylvania's State Act 57 legislation, to completely renovate the boiler house. This renovation included
the installation of a gas-fired steam boiler system and steam turbine. ABACUS selected SP McCarl's as the installing mechanical contractor and P.C. McKenzie Company as the steam boiler equipment supplier.
Following the complete demolition of existing boiler room, including asbestos abatement, the following equipment was installed: - Two (2) Hurst 600 HP/300 PSIG Steam Boilers complete with Weishaupt Low NOx
Burners and AutoFlame Combustion Controls.
- One (1) Deaerating Designs Packed-Column Deaerator System
- One (1) Penn Separator Flash Economizer
- Two (2) Cain Industries Boiler Exhaust Economizers.
The boilers have been successfully placed on-line and all facility operating personnel have received extensive hands-on training. With the heating season fast approaching, the entire project
could not afford the slightest delay. In a short six months the old boilers were removed, the new boilers were installed and placed into operation.
